Giuseppe and Sons Philadelphia Wedding Flowers
A Moody Fall Wedding at Philadelphia Distilling and Giuseppe & Sons
Florals by Twig Gardens | Philadelphia, PA
Jena and Wes came to us with one of our favorite kinds of vision boards, minimal but striking, organic, moody, with just a whisper of pink. Couple that with two Philadelphia venues that already had personalities of their own, and we were in love. From the industrial cool of Philadelphia Distilling to the candlelit hum of Giuseppe & Sons later that night, every corner of this celebration felt intentional, intimate, and a little bit unexpected.
If you’re a Philly couple dreaming of a wedding that leans into the city’s grit and warmth in equal measure, this one is for you.
The Ceremony at Philadelphia Distilling
Philadelphia Distilling, tucked into the Fishtown neighborhood, is one of those venues that doesn’t need a lot to look incredible. The exposed brick, copper stills, high ceilings, and warm wood do a lot of the heavy lifting. The bones of the space are incredible, and it was our job to add to it without competing with it.
For the ceremony, we built an asymmetrical floral installation that framed the couple without boxing them in. We pulled in stems with movement, soft cream blooms, dusty pinks, deep burgundy accents, and plenty of negative space. Nothing tight. Nothing forced. Just an arrangement that looked like it could have grown there on its own. That airy, organic feeling was non-negotiable for Jena and Wes, and honestly, it’s our favorite way to design.
The neutral palette let the venue’s natural tones shine, while the touches of dusty pink and deeper red brought just enough warmth for a fall afternoon. Moody and romantic, but never heavy.
Personal Touches and Signage That Made Us Smile
One of the best parts of working with this couple was how thoughtful they were about the small stuff. The signage throughout the day was fun. Playful fonts, a little bit of attitude, and details that felt completely like them. From the welcome sign at the ceremony to the playful menu cards at the reception, it never felt like signage bought off the shelf. It felt curated.
A lot of this comes with the territory when working with an incredible planning team like Taylor Emily Events. They specialize in wedding elements that speak to the whole story without losing that individual charm. We love it when the design choices echo the couple’s personalities and not a Pinterest board, and the team at Taylor Emily are naturals at designing an event that feels perfectly elevated.
The Reception at Giuseppe & Sons
After the ceremony, guests made their way to Giuseppe & Sons, the Italian-American restaurant in Center City Philadelphia known for its dim lighting, leather banquettes, and that “you’ve been transported to another decade” energy.
Hosting a wedding reception inside a working restaurant is a special kind of magic, and it deserves a floral approach that respects what’s already there.
We leaned into communal seating and spaces and went for something that would make use of the organic spaces.
Family-Style Tables, Organic Florals
The reception centered around long, family-style tables, the kind of dinner where everyone passes the bread and laughs at the same joke twice. For the table florals, we created low flower frog arrangements that ran the length of each table without ever getting in the way of the food (or eye contact across the table, which matters more than people think).
We focused on avoiding anything rigid and, definitely, nothing that repeats in a perfect line. Movement, texture, and that sense that someone gathered everything from a fall garden that morning carried the day. With family-style service, the food becomes part of the table’s design, so the florals had to play well with platters of pasta, bread baskets, and clinking wine glasses. Low and organic was the only answer.
The Bar Floral Moment
Now, if there is one detail from this wedding we want every couple to steal, it is the bar floral moment. We installed generous, asymmetrical floral pieces on the bar and behind the booths at Giuseppe & Sons, paired with custom signage that played into the restaurant’s classic-cool vibe. It became the unofficial photo backdrop of the night. Everyone wanted a drink in front of it. Everyone took a picture. It was the kind of detail that turned a functional space into a memory.
A bar floral moment is one of the highest-impact design choices a couple can make. People spend real time at the bar. Why not give them something gorgeous to stand in front of?
A Color Palette That Whispered
The whole celebration lived inside a soft, intentional palette: warm neutrals, cream, taupe, dusty pink, and deeper burgundy notes pulled from the season. There wasn’t a lot of color, and that was the point. When you keep the palette quiet, the textures and shapes get to do the talking. And in a venue like Philadelphia Distilling or Giuseppe & Sons, that’s exactly what you want.
Why This Wedding Worked
Jena and Wes's wedding worked because every choice answered the same question: does this feel like us? The florals were minimal but striking. The signage was fun but not loud. The venues were two of Philadelphia’s most distinctive spaces, and the design honored what each one already brought to the table. Nothing fought for attention. Everything contributed to the same warm, moody, intimate feeling.
