Aesthetic: Whimsical florals in deep reds with muted neutrals

Photography: Justin Muir

Autumn in Pennsylvania truly paints the landscape with a palette that artists and dreamers yearn to capture. We are so lucky to have a local bounty of flowers that brim with warmth and a touch of the ethereal. It lends itself beautifully to fresh floral arrangements for those couple's embarking on a new journey together. Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of weaving this autumn tapestry into the fabric of a wedding at the enchanting Tyler Arboretum.

As the florist charged with bringing the couple's floral dreams to life, TWIG embraced the challenge to mirror the season's beauty in every arrangement, every petal, and every leaf.

The venue itself, nestled amidst lush landscapes and sprawling gardens, offered a naturally breathtaking backdrop for what was to be an autumn-toned wedding full of whimsical touches. Tyler Arboretum's charm in the fall provided a rich canvas for the day’s festivities, but it was within the rustic elegance of the barn and tented reception that our floral artistry was allowed to shine.

Transforming Spaces with Nature's Palette

Our design ethos for the day was deeply rooted in the essence of autumn, drawing on its rich tones and textures to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The tent, an integral part of the celebration, was adorned with garlands of greenery along the beams and nestled into the corners, crafting an overhead canopy that brought the outside in. This verdant framing softened the space and lent it an organic, whimsical quality that complemented the arboretum's natural beauty.

Within the barn, the beams soared with life, draped in more greenery that echoed the wild, untamed borders of the arboretum outside. This continuation of the theme into the ceremony space, located in the upper part of the barn, created a seamless transition from the outdoor splendor to the indoor charm.

The ceremony was a masterpiece of floral architecture, with a beautiful wooden arch standing as the altar's centerpiece. Adorned with an array of white and dark maroon blooms, the arch was a striking contrast against the rustic barn backdrop. Bursts of peach in various shades punctuated the arrangement, bringing warmth and depth. The greenery, a constant motif, wove through the structure, binding the colors together in a celebration of autumn’s bounty.

Sustainable Beauty: The Art of Floral Repurposing

One of the philosophies at the heart of our work is the belief in the power of repurposing. To this end, the aisle pieces, which had added a touch of magic to the couple's walk towards their new beginning, found a second life adorning the dessert and bar tables.

This act of transformation spoke to our commitment to sustainability and ensured that the beauty of the day extended into every corner of the celebration. Our team works seamlessly between the ceremony and the wedding to collect and execute the florals in their new capacity with minimal impact on the guest experience.

An Ethereal Evening: The Magic of Light and Florals

The barn, aglow with soft, warm light as the evening descended, took on an almost ethereal quality. The floral arrangements, from the grandeur of the arch to the subtle accents on the tables, created a cohesive narrative that spoke of love, of the passage of seasons, and of new beginnings.

Reflecting on the day, it was a beautiful showcase of autumn’s splendor, celebrating the love of two people coming together in the most beautiful of settings. As the florist behind this autumn-toned wedding at Tyler Arboretum, we were honored to play a part in their story, crafting scenes of beauty that, like the memories of the day, would endure long after the last leaf of autumn had fallen.

As the night drew to a close, it was clear that this was not merely the end of a beautiful day but the beginning of an exquisite journey that would continue to blossom with each passing season. Thank you to the bride and groom for bringing us along on the journey!
