Katie and Nigel's luxury wedding at The Union League of Philadelphia was marked by an atmosphere of opulence, only amplified by the vibrant and lush floral arrangements that we had the opportunity to create for this once-in-a-lifetime wedding day.

The Union League of Philadelphia, an emblem of history and grandeur, offers a majestic backdrop for weddings. Its architecture is all timeless elegance, and the League's grand ballroom with its soaring ceilings and crystal chandeliers creates an awe-inspiring setting.

This blend of old-world charm with contemporary touches was something we wanted to design just the right florals for, arrangements that would stand up against the majesty, but fit the tone of their day seamlessly.

A color palette of earthy reds and purples conveyed the atmosphere of a subtle lush garden rather than making a statement, with pops of pink, orange and white looking beautiful against the marble and vintage wood landscape of the Union League.

The aisle was a showstopper. Created as a garden path, we started with smaller floral pieces that get grander as you move along, until you reach the pièce de résistance - two vibrant floral pillars marking the ceremony space, creating an inviting yet grand atmosphere.

As guests made their way to the reception, they were greeted by two towering arrangements that commanded attention in the President's Lounge and the Seating Card table. These arrangements were thoughtfully curated to match the colors of their respective rooms.

The staircase, situated behind the seating card table, was transformed into a lush green garden, accented with beautiful flowers of pink/red/purple hues, as well as white. This garden aesthetic, with its overgrown, natural appeal, aligned perfectly with Katherine's initial vision of contrasting lightness and color.

We then repurposed the ceremony pillars as the entrance to the reception, so that guests could get an up-close look at the riot of color.

Inside the Ballroom, the guest tables were a sight to behold. Rectangular tables boasted a center lined with simple, yet striking, greenery and flower frogs brimming with a spectrum of flowers.

The hues ranged from dark, rich purples to bright, vivacious pops of pink, orange, and white. Round tables were adorned with tall, lush centerpieces ensconced in clear glass vases, adding a touch of elegance and height to the room.

This project was nothing short of a Herculean task, with every member of the TWIG team (9 in total) contributing to its success, from design to day-of, and strike. We used 4,000 local flowers, 150 flower frogs, and the bride and groom with thoughtful enough to donate all pf these flowers to ForgetMeKnot, a nonprofit organization that repurposes wedding flowers for hospitals and other organizations.

In the end, it was Katherine's trust in our vision that allowed us to successfully transform the space, effectively capturing the essence of their "overgrown garden" theme. The final result was rewarding, a testament to our commitment to executing exceptional floral design at every wedding we are lucky enough to be a part of.
