On a misty Saturday in May, Lisa and Jeff celebrated their love amidst the artistic splendor of the Duke Sculpture Garden in Wallingford, PA. It was a dream come true to curate the floral arrangements for this unique and vibrant wedding because the bride and groom handed the reigns complete over to TWIG, but more on that later!

From the beginning, the day was steeped in a beautiful  blend of nature and art. The Duke Sculpture Garden is an exceptional choice that features a collection of contemporary sculptures set among beautifully landscaped gardens, offering a distinctive and picturesque setting for both wedding ceremonies and receptions.

Its well-maintained paths lead guests through an array of striking artworks and lush greenery, making it not just a venue, but an experience. In the midst of this serene setting, I knew our floral arrangements had to be equally enchanting.

Now, here’s the twist that makes this wedding stand out: Lisa and Jeff didn’t know their wedding flower colors until the day itself! Why, you ask? Because they are the epitome of cool.

They wanted their wedding decor to complement the art exhibit at the gallery, which meant waiting until two months before the big day to find out about the 'Birds' exhibit. This exhibit was to feature works from various artists in the community, suggesting a myriad of color palettes.

Embracing this uncertainty, they chose to keep the linens all white, a canvas for whatever colors would come. And when the moment of decision arrived, they placed their trust in me.

We landed on “vibrant saturated color”, and the result was nothing short of breathtaking. The florals not only complemented the art but also brought a new dimension of life and vibrancy to the space. The decision to embrace color paid off, turning the reception into a celebration not just of love, but also of art, community, and the beauty of nature.

Our first task was to enhance the stone tower, where the two were having their ceremony. An already majestic backdrop was complemented by the vibrant pillars we had adorned with a rich tapestry of flowers in full color, creating a striking contrast against the stone. The effect was magical, adding a fairy-tale-like quality to the outdoor ceremony.

Lisa’s bouquet was a masterpiece in itself. Not just an accessory, but a statement. It was as vibrant as her personality and, quite fittingly, matched her glasses to perfection. The colors of the bouquet mirrored all of the arrangements, creating a cohesive and visually stunning theme throughout the venue.

As the evening unfolded, the reception in the open art gallery was a sight to behold. The space, with its beautiful wood beam accents, was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors. The centerpieces, each a vibrant explosion of yellows, pinks, dark blues, and purples, echoed the art that adorned the walls.

As the night progressed, the pillars, which had earlier marked the beginning of their new life together in the gardens, were repurposed to frame the band. The vibrant backdrop we created with the pillars added to the festive ambiance. It was a perfect blend of elegance, fun, and spontaneity.

This wedding was a testament to the fact that sometimes, the most beautiful experiences come from trusting the process and embracing the unknown. Lisa and Jeff's willingness to wait for the right moment, to let the art dictate the colors of their most special day, was a bold move that paid off in a spectacular fashion.

As a florist, it was an exhilarating challenge to work with such a dynamic and evolving palette. It pushed the boundaries of creativity and allowed me to explore new possibilities in floral design. The experience of working on this wedding was not just a job but a journey into the heart of what makes each wedding unique – the personalities of the couple and the stories they want their day to tell.

In the end, Lisa and her Jeff’s wedding was more than just an event; it was a celebration of love, art, and the vibrant tapestry of life. It was a day that will remain etched in my memory as a vivid splash of colors, laughter, and love. As they begin their journey together, I am honored to have played a part in creating a day that was as unique and vibrant as their love.
